New Release by the U. S. Geological Survey
Steinshouer, D. W., Jin Qiang, McCabe, P. J., and Ryder, R. T., 1999, Maps showing geology, oil and gas fields, and geologic provinces of the Asia Pacific region: U. S. Geological Survey Open File Report 97-470F, 1 CD-ROM.
The CD-ROM contains three color maps: Map 1, The Far East; Map 2, Southeast Asia and Map 3, Australia and New Zealand. These digital maps, compiled from a variety of sources, are part of a worldwide series of maps on CD-ROM produced by the U.S. Geological Surveys World Energy Project. The goal of the project is to assess the undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resources of the world by the year 2000. For data management purposes, the world was divided into eight energy regions corresponding approximately to the economic regions of the world as defined by the U.S. Department of State. The Asia Pacific Region (Region 3) includes Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, The Peopless Republic of China, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, North and South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Singapore, Soloman Islands, Thailand, Tonga, Vanuatu, and Vietnam.
This CD-ROM contains files in multiple formats, so that almost any computer user can import, use or view the data. The GIS data formats include ARC/INFO coverages and export files, ArcView shapefiles, ASCII text "ungenerate" files, and supplementary files for reproducing the maps. Viewing formats include Adobe Portable Document (pdf), Environmental System Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI) ArcExplorer, and ESRI ArcView. Installation programs for Adobe Acrobat Reader v.3.0 and ESRI ArcExplorer v.1.1 are enclosed with this CD-ROM.
