Alumni party at GSA, 1st general meeting, and Prof. Juan's
Memorial Fund

Dear Members of OCESTA:

Some of you may already have received the Abstracts with Programs
(vol.30, No. 7) for 1998 GSA Annual Meeting. Please note the
announcement on p. A-11, that the alumni party for Chinese
Universities will be held on Monday, Oct. 26, 7:00-9:30 p.m.,
at Sheraton Centre Grand Ballroom. Please come to meet your
friends, old and new.

We are also planning to have our first general meeting in the
evening of Oct. 27 (Tuesday) right after dinner. We will meet
at the registration area between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. If you plan
to join us for dinner, please sign your name (before noon, Oct.
27, if possible) on the poster near the registration area, so
that I can find an appropriate restaurant for our group. For
those of you who will not be able to come for the dinner, but
are interested in attending the general meeting, I will try
to post the restaurant locality information near the registration
area. At the meeting, Dr. Chen-Lin Chou will have a draft of our
Constitution ready for open discussion. We will also discuss
many other issues related to the future of OCESTA, as well as
NACESA and NACGA. Your participation will be highly appreciated.

I would like to inform you that an obituary for Prof. Juan V.C. has
been published in our web site (www.geochina.org)under announcement
section. To read it, you need to have the Big5 version of
Chinese-reading software, which can be downloaded from internet for
free. If you need information about downloading, please contact me
or Dr. Duan Zhenhao (<duan@chem.ucsd.edu>). Please don't delay; it
is time for you to have this capability in your computer!! I am
gathering information about the arrangement of Prof. Juan's
Memorial Fund established in Taiwan. For those of you, especially
NACESA members, who has not made contribution for this fund, please
wait until we figure out the appropriate way for us to make such a
contribution. If you have suggestions, please let me know as soon
as possible.

Again, If you plan to attend GSA meeting in Toronto, please come to
our alumni party and our general meeting (and the dinner, of course).
I am looking forward to seeing you there.

Regards,

I-Ming Chou
